August 21st 2007: Search Called Off NORFOLK (NNS) -- The search for three naval aviators missing since their E-2C Hawkeye crashed following take off from the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) has been terminated and their status has now been listed as deceased.

They are identified as Lt. Cameron N. Hall, 30, of Natchitoches, La.; Lt. Ryan K. Betton, 31, of Collinsville, Va.; and Lt.j.g. Jerry R. Smith, 25, of Greenville, Maine.

All were assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 120.

Hall was a naval flight officer and an instructor. He had been in the squadron since April 2006. Betton, a pilot, was also an instructor also assigned to the squadron since February 2005. Smith, a pilot, had been a student since June 2006.

Betton was married with a two-year-old son. Both Hall and and Smith were single.
